The constant and repeated contraction over the years of the muscles of the face ends up generating the so-called expression lines (mainly crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines), which age the general appearance of the face.

The selective application of a neuromodulator relaxes these muscles and reduces their force of contraction. In this way:

-Delays the appearance of wrinkles (when their furrow has not yet become too deep).

-Softens the line of existing wrinkles (to a greater or lesser extent depending on the depth of the line and the quality of the skin).

In this way, the general appearance of the face is improved, with a healthier and more serene appearance since many times the expression wrinkles end up giving us a tired or stressed appearance even if we are not.

Let’s try and clarify doubts about certain areas:

  • The cost of the treatment will depend on the number of areas to be treated and therefore on the amount of material to be used in each patient.
  • The frequency of application varies between every 4 and 6 months: it will depend on the time it takes each person to metabolize (“use up”) the toxin. After that time, all the muscles will be mobilized as before, with the advantage of having been resting between 4 to 6 months and avoiding increasing the depth of the wrinkles. After this time, if the patient wishes, the treatment can be performed again. It should be applied 2 (or 3) times a year because if it is applied in short periods and high doses, higher doses will be needed and the period of action is shortened due to resistance of the organism.
  • The most common areas of application of a neuromodulator in the face and inside the face are:
  • -The forehead area (to reduce horizontal wrinkles)
  • – Frown lines
  • -Crow’s feet
  • -The sides of the nose are also applied to avoid “bunny lines”..
  • -Some also treat so-called barcode wrinkles (on the lips), chin, neck, etc.
-The neuromodulator also has a therapeutic use in the treatment of hyper-sweating (called “hyperhidrosis”) of the armpits or hands.
  • This treatment “does not add volume”, the objective is to relax the muscles of the face that are contracted and that lead to the formation of wrinkles in the skin.
  • What is a unit of a neuromodulator? How many units does a vial or vial have? 1 vial or vial contains 50 or 100 International Units (IU).
  • How many units are they going to use, how long does it last and how often to apply it? Normally between 20 to 50 IU are used in each patient (depending on the number of areas treated), although there are cases in which up to 100 IU are used more frequently in men or when there is resistance to the toxin. In young patients from 20 years to 40 years we generally use low doses, between 20 to 40 Units to produce muscle relaxation with a subtle and not obvious result, in order to reduce and avoid the appearance of wrinkles.
