Analysis
We offer a complete range of more than 5,000 types of analysis in blood, urine, stool, biopsies, cervical smears etc. That is just about any test that is available in Spain.
We carry out checkups, hormone testing, pregnancy, sexual health screening and so on, and have access to specialized services in pathology, oncology, microbiology and many others.
Atlantic Clinic has a special interest in sexual health (including testosterone replacement) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs): see the section below.
Blood extraction
This can be carried out at the clinic or at home if you prefer.
For those with needle phobia or anxiety our doctors can administer sedation and local anaesthetic cream to the skin beforehand to make the procedure painless, and as relaxed as possible.
(This needs to be given at least 1 hour before blood is taken so please advise the secretaries when you make an appointment).
Most results are ready within 24 hours. Some more specialized tests can take longer.

Do I need an appointment?
You can come to the clinic without an appointment and you will be seen as soon as possible, but please note that priority is given to patients with an appointment, and you may need to wait.
In general samples should be taken/received before 13.00 on weekdays. After this time, some tests (which cannot be kept overnight) can still be performed but may incur an additional charge for collection.
Can urgent tests be done out of hours or on the weekend?
This may be possible to arrange, and would incur an additional call-out charge.
Do I need to have a doctor’s consultation?
If you have a list of tests that you need (for example requested by another doctor) you do not need a consultation, and the results will be sent to you directly without comment.
If you wish to discuss the results with a doctor from Atlantic Clinic you can make an in-person or telephone appointment by calling 952 81 7425 or online below.
If you are not sure exactly which tests you need, it is recommended to make an appointment with one of our family doctors to discuss this. He/she will advise on the most appropriate tests and will also explain the results to you and suggest any further action that may be needed.
How will I receive the results?
The results can be sent by email, collected in person from the clinic or accessed by an online patient portal. The latter is the most secure method for sensitive data.
Due to data protection rules the results cannot be sent by Whatsapp or SMS.
Checkups
If you are thinking about health screening it is best to talk to a doctor to decide which tests are most appropriate for your particular age, medical history, family history and symptoms. This way you can avoid unnecessary investigations and make sure the right ones for you are carried out.
Equally important is an examination by a doctor which may reveal health problems that would not show up in analysis.
You can book an appointment by calling 952 81 7425 or online:
How much does it cost?
The tests are tailor-made to the individual, but to give an idea of costs these are typical basic screening profiles:

How are samples taken?
Men: most tests are done on a urine sample and/or blood sample. If an infection in the mouth or anus is suspected, a swab (like a long cotton bud) is used.
Women: most tests are done with a vaginal swab and/or blood sample.
What about herpes, genital warts, mollusca contagiosum?
These are generally best diagnosed by a doctor looking directly at the lesion.
If there is any doubt about the diagnosis, tests can be carried out for confirmation.
How will I receive the results?
The results can be sent by email or collected in person at Atlantic Clinic if you prefer.
Because of data protection rules results cannot be sent by Whatsapp or SMS.
What about confidentiality?
All medical information is kept strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to anybody else without your permission.
What should I say (if anything) to my partner?
Discussions with your partner about STIs can be difficult and intimidating. It is best to talk to the doctor first so you have all the information you need, and to know how to approach it.
What happens if I need treatment?
The doctor may give treatment on the spot if appropriate, or sometimes a prescription.
If medication is given to you there will be an additional charge to cover this.
You should not have any sexual contact until your doctor tells you it is safe to do so.
Will the results be in English?
Yes, all the usual test results are in English.
Some specialized tests that need to be sent to a different laboratory may be reported in Spanish, your doctor can explain the results if needed.
How accurate are the tests?
No test is 100% accurate.
In general terms, the PCR analysis is considered the best available test for most STI screening.
Antigen tests are slightly less accurate but the results are very fast (less than 1 hour).
Is there anything I should do before testing?
Yes! To improve the accuracy of the tests;
For men: don’t pass urine before testing (ideally 3 hours or more if you can).
For women: don’t wash the vagina on the day of testing.
