STI screening: same day results.

Sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening is available at Atlantic Clinic.

Who should be tested?

1. If you have symptoms such as a discharge, burning pain on urination, ulcers or lumps on the genitals.
2. If you think you may be at risk, for example following unprotected sexual contact.
3. You are starting a new sexual relationship and one or both partners want to be checked.

How long does it take?

Our on-site laboratory means we can provide results (and treatment if needed) within hours on the same day for most tests.

What is involved?

Which tests you need may vary according to your symptoms and history, but typically might be:

For women:

1. A blood test for HIV and Syphilis.
2. Vaginal swabs for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Trichomonas, Candida and Gardnerella infections.

For men:

1. A blood test for HIV and syphilis.
2. A urethral swab for Gonorrhoea, Trichomonas, Candida and Gardnerella.
3. A urine test for Chlamydia.

As a man, I don’t want to have the urethral swab. Is there an alternative?

Gonorrhoea can be tested for in the urine sample by another method (polymerase chain reaction or PCR), although it takes 7 working days for the result, and is more expensive (see costs below).

We also offer other tests such as Hepatitis B and C which need 2 working days for the result, and herpes analysis.

It is the weekend and I can’t wait until Monday to get tested!

If requested, the Doctor and Laboratory Specialist can usually be called to perform testing outside of our normal opening times, and give results within hours. There is an additional call-out charge for this service depending on the day and time.

How much does it cost?

The consultation with the doctor is 70 euros.
